All of her personality traits reflect tons of energy, enthusiasm and confidence but Ziranne is also misunderstood by others.

Ziranne gets complaints that she is tactless, indifferent or overly hostile & quick to snap when they offer her advice. From her point of view, it’s a matter of remembering that not everyone is as quick-witted and capable as she is, and has to be aware that she need to be gentle and patient when dealing with weakness or slowness in others.

Ziranne has to try to pay more attention to detail, rather than just focusing on the big picture, which is what she instinctively does.

Family History

Ziranne was born on April 6 in 2346 as a fiery Aries redhead on the Trill homeworld to two unjoined Trills, Kelbin and Leona Nerys. Her father was a diplomat, and her mother was a teacher who taught at a local university. Consequently, she was taught both Trill and Federation Standard at home.

From an early age, Ziranne was very energetic, and her parents started her in an 'Under 6' athletics training program when she was five. Although the little children were pretty much more like a rabble, they all enjoyed it and it was obvious that Ziranne had talent. She did even better over the next two years, winning a number of medals for 100m and 200m runs, relays, long jump and high jump.

However, when she was a few months from being nine years old, she was involved in a shuttle accident, which killed both her parents and left her as a quadriplegic with massive nerve, muscle, spinal and organ damage. Medical equipment was all that kept her alive.

Using advanced medical techniques and developments that came out of studying the Borg, a combined Bajoran, Vulcan and Trill medical team developed a way to replace many of the damaged parts of her body with synthetic equivalents.

To allow her brain to control these, certain circuitry had to be implanted in her brain. One interesting system added actually provides her a way to connect to Federation computer systems via special subcutaneous terminal discs in her finger tips. Though this does not allow her to bypass any security that is in place on a given system, just to be able to use her mind to manipulate the terminal.

While trying to understand more about what had been done, she became intrigued with computers and how things worked. Because she had a lot of time during recovery, she threw herself into learning, and picked up a subtle passion for the mind and how it works.

Although it took a fair while, Ziranne eventually returned to her athletics, and ran her first marathon at the age of 14. She was looked after at medical facilities and attended local schools until she was 16. Over this time, she was curious and regularly bullied the Starfleet staff to talk to her about what they did.

During the time between 14 and 16, she improved her marathon records, competing all across the United States, Europe and Asia. She won her first marathon for her age group in the San Francisco Marathon, sponsored by Starfleet, when she was 16. Over the next two years, she won a few more marathons in Boston, New York and London.

She applied to join Starfleet at age 18, and was accepted. She had also applied to join the Trill Symbiot Selection program, and several months later, she found out that she had been accepted.

Due to her athletics and running, Ziranne found that the initial five week physical training was a breeze. Although she could be a bit demanding, she was put in a class that was made up of equally competitive cadets, and she fit in very well. She was quite smart and did not need as much time to study as other, so tend to party quite a lot. She also took a lot of interest in early Earth combat, specifically boxing, during this time as part of the 'sports' program.

Part of the choice of these was that it tended to cause the other cadets to have difficulty in defeating her, so fed well with her competitiveness. Once the initial generalized training was over, Ziranne threw herself into her work, and received nothing below distinction for her first year courses. At the end of her first year, everyone saw her as a candidate for a Head of Security detail once she got to the fleet.

At the beginning of her second year, Ziranne surprised everyone by instead of going Security or Command, Ziranne decided to go the more intellectual path and took a major of Medical Sciences with minors in Psychology. The passion for the mind haven grown over the first year. As her third year began, she was transferred to Starfleet Academy College of Medicine (SACOM) to begin her four year medical training.

During her last year, Ziranne and one of her instructors, Lt Cmdr Peter Garrick, started an intensely passionate and sexual relationship after a few meetings in the Academy pub. This continued for about three months, and they quite often took romantic holidays away.

He got her quite interested in Latin American dancing, especially the Tango, Salsa, Rumba and Lambada. Eventually, the relationship was found out and Peter was transferred elsewhere with a demotion to Lt. It continued by correspondence for awhile before breaking up. Continuing, she graduated from the Academy and was assigned to the USS Poseidon for starship duty as a Junior Counselor.

In 2370, Ziranne was promoted to Lieutenant Junior-Grade aboard the Poseidon. With permission from the Poseidon's Captain and Primary Ship Counselor, Ziranne requested and started a correspondence course with Starfleet Academy to complete Command School, as she wanted to prepare herself for a more superior role.

In 2371, she was once again promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as the new Counselor on Station 419, mainly due to her willingness to take more responsibility.

In 2403, she was transferred to USS Vanguard as the ship's lead Counselor.

Medical Profile

When she was younger, Ziranne was involved in a serious accident, and left as a quadriplegic with massive nerve, muscle, spinal and organ damage. Medical equipment was all that kept her alive. Luckily, her symbiot managed to be protected from damage.

Using advanced medical techniques and developments that came out of studying the Borg, a combined Trill, Vulcan & Starfleet medical team developed a way to replace many of the damaged parts of her body with synthetic equivalents.

To allow her brain to control these, certain circuitry had to be implanted in her brain. One interesting system added actually provides her a way to connect to Federation computer systems via special subcutaneous terminal discs in her finger tips.

Later when she joined the Starfleet Medical department, she learned to take advantage of this, allowing her to mentally hook directly into the terminal and mentally control the systems in a way no others really can.

Other Remarks

Ziranne has a thing for stray animals, especially puppies. Consequently, she has two small fluffy white Maltese terriers named Jack and Jill, a black Border Collie named Eddie, and a Golden Retriever named Bonnie.

One section of her quarters has been modified to help accommodate her most prized pet, a holographic white tiger cub which stands only two feet high. It has been programed to behave like a normal tiger cub, but has a subroutine to ensure that it is as well behaved as a common house cat. It is also programmed to recognize every member on the ship as a member of its family.
